Selling ourselves short? PhDs Inside the Academy and Outside of the Professoriate

In 2009 I wrote: “It is hard not to feel that I have sold myself short by deciding not to be an academic.” It is remarkable how my perspective has changed over four years and how my satisfaction in my work exceeds anything I might have hoped for.

Making History – New Podcast Series

This week we begin a new series of podcasts, which we are calling Making History.
Making History is a series of interviews with our graduate students about their work lives. Professional historians, like history books, do not spring fully-formed from library
carrels or shelves of archival boxes. They are “made,” in processes both painful and illuminating, and sometimes funny.
