Erika Bsumek was featured on Sunday in the Austin American-Statesman’s “Insight and Books” section. Her article, “Navajo is more than a fashion trend,” offers historical background to the controversy over Urban Outiftters’ new line of clothes labeled “Navajo” and featuring such items as a flask and underwear with Navajo-like patterns. Bsumek is the author of Indian-Made: Navajo Culture in the Marketplace, 1868-1940.

Jeremi Suri blogs on Global Brief about “Why the Debt Panel Failed.” He tries to find a silver lining there. Suri’s most recent book is Liberty’s Surest Guardian: American Nation-Building from the Founders to Obama.
